I just went ahead and put it DEPENDS. It depends on what you are going for. I prefer a well BALANCED sounds, so I would go more for SEALED. I will admit that I don't know anything about bandpass.
The people that go for LOUD, they use the PORTED boxes.
In my cars, I found that the ported boxes (other than a single basstube) make the bass WAY TOO LOUD, so I don't get any of the higher frequencies. When I put in the sealed box, I got a better overall tone, but at that point I stopped working on my sound system and started working on the engine.
the only system I have worked on since then is the BOSE system in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme.

At this point engine mods are pointless in my euro but yea i love moddin a motor more then a sound system. But i picked it up cheap. My buddy sold the subs to me for 100 bucks at work. Then randomly a guy from another shop sold me the amp for 100 and i already had the wiring. But i bought the system almost a year b4 i put it in anything.

So far, you have spent more for your radio system than I paid to get my engine (which is a 1999 3100 SFI). I got the engine off of Ebay for only $124.50

i like seal cause the frequency responce
a ported box will give you clean bass if built well,a properly tuned vented enclosure gives you more bass with less power.it uses the back wave ,tuned through the vent to push more bass out or front wave.output at the tune frequency is clean cause cone excursion is reduce.
band pass or single reflex design ,is a very complicared box to built right ,but you can build them to be louder than ported or to give you a lower response or a more rounded bass response.

In my GP I had Infinitys replace the factory speakers, amplified them, Kenwood HU, 12" sealed subwoofer. It was alot of fun but I sold all that stuff to help the payments for the Impala. For factory, the newer cars have much better sound anyways. I just wish the CD player in my car played MP3s. I might eventually get the harness to connect an MP3 player, and get a bass cannon of some sort that is small but just to add a little kick.

I might eventually get the harness to connect an MP3 player, and get a bass cannon of some sort that is small but just to add a little kick. That is kinda what I did with the gold car. The paper speakers finally blew, so I put all PIONEER in it, but left the stock HU. I didn't get replacment DVC speakers for the rear, so what I did was put normal pioneer 6X9's and hooked them up to an amp (as well as the 6.5 rounds in the doors), left the dash speakers (4 inch rounds) hooked up to the radio, then cut the factory subwoofer wires from the rear and hooked them up to a BASS TUBE. I kinda have too much in the back, so now that I am redoing it all, I am going to have to figure out something different. Since I am using the 1994 amp now, I think I will have it run the DOOR SPEAKERS, and have the dash and rears set up factory and use the aftermarket amp on the basstube. I think doing it like that will give me the sound I am wanting. I might ask Rupert to come help me with this seeing he knows a LOT about this. He spent more on his setup in his cutlass convert than I spend in all my cars combined. He knows his shit.

best bang for your buck is speakers that put out mids/high, and keep most of the bass on the subs... aiming them is important too... people dont understand this... i think its funny to see a pair of subs, in anything other than a bandpass box, in a trunk that has fold down seats, and the subs are right forward aimed forward... (i call that a no-no)... ive screwed arround with lots of stuff too. but mostly aftermarket. i know the cars are commin out with some pretty intense stereos (especially RIGHT NOW) these new cars are droppin 10" subs in rear hatches!! lol and using alot of aftermarket brands, i know Nissan has been using rockford for a while.... and i laughed when i didnt see an infinity set of speakers in an infiniti. hahaha i like the infinity line up of speakers, its what im using in my regal. im lookin for a matching set of pearl white 6 x 9s right now for the rear... and i have a pair of fine and dandy 5 1/4s im not using (all of this comes gutted from my prelude. i stretched the front to fit the 5 1/4s and modified the rear to fit 6 1/2s now the 6 1/2s are in my door on my regal, and the back is the stocker... ahhhh need old infinity speakers!
